CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION TO SEA LEVEL RISE IN ATLANTIC CANADA

BLAIR GREENAN, Bedford Institute of Oceanography, Canada.

Beginning in 2011, Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) initiated a program to assess the risks posed on departmental programs by climate change. The outcomes of this risk assessment process will be reviewed to provide context to the research being carried out as part of a program entitled the Aquatic Climate Change Adaptation Services Program (ACCASP). The ACCASP research projects are focused on two streams: 1) understanding the impacts of climate change and 2) adaptation tools. Two of the adaptation tools related to sea level rise will be presented and discussed with a focus on the implications for coastal infrastructure in Atlantic Canada. More information on the ACCASP is available at http://www.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/science/oceanography-oceanographie/accasp/index-eng.html.
